From the President

January's weather was cold and clear with north winds blowing about 30 mph, just the way we like it.  You "Snow Birds" don't know what you are missing!!

There really isn't much to report on.  We've had a budget meeting and we should have a report on that at the next meeting.  Club manager Terree checked in, and she has lots of new ideas for the upcoming year.  I know she will make them work.

Wayne and Ed, along with volunteers Tim and Warren did a wonderful job keeping up on the many things there are to get done at the course.  There a lot of other people who pitched in when needed, you know who you are and we thank you also!  There are always little projects to be done, so if you're looking for something to do, stop on out and pitch in.

I have asked a couple of trappers to help us with the beavers.  Let's all hope they are successful.

After the Annual dinner in May, my reign of terror will be over.  I have had lots of fun the last few years, but it is time to move on.  Last November I picked up another job.  The pay is about the same, but the hours are a lot longer! Ha-ha!  I will always be around to help when and where I can.

Thank you for letting me serve you.
Leonard Angerman, President

WINTER RULES: "Moving the ball for a better lie due to adverse conditions in winter...or when applying the rule remembering that it's always winter rules somewhere."

Laws of Golf

LAW #1:No matter how bad your last shot was you should have inner peace knowing that a worse one is yet to come.  This law does not expire on the 18th hole, since it has the supernatural tendency to extend over the course of a tournament, a summer and, eventually, a lifetime.

LAW #2:Your best round of golf will be followed almost immediately by your worst round ever.  The probability of the latter increases with the number of people you tell about the former.

A Word from the Pro Shop
We had a great year last year, with a better one in store for us, this upcoming season. I am excited for the golf course. I have lots of new ideas and things happening.

I would like to take the time to offer a personal thanks to some people who went out of their way for the good of the golf course last year. First, to the women who worked on the tee boxes, Faye Kohrt, Kathy Sandness, Pat Roppel and Betty Abbott, thank you for your hard work sprucing up the boxes.  To all the ladies, who made me salads, muffins and cookies for tournaments and a couple of you who spoiled the crew during the week, there are too many here to mention, but you know who you are.  Thanks for the goodies!! Warren Edgley for all the alders you have cut down. Scott Russell and Brian Smith thank you for building the additional new lockers in the tournament room. Chucky Hay, for the donation of a refrigerator, we can now keep more beverages cold. To all of our members, (you know who you are) who donated extra dollars for our various projects through out the season. Kathleen Harding, thanks for supporting my ideas and helping me make them real - post cards, bumper stickers and pictures, to advertise the golf course. Wayne Harding, for coming to my rescue on the weekends and on your own time even, to fix the beer cart. To Ken Davidson Sr., for your world famous Brats, and to Jim Abbott for teaching me how to play golf, thank you. Like I mentioned in the paper, it takes a village to raise a golf course and I appreciate all of you.

I am presently working with Tis Peterman on putting together a grant package to obtain monies for some new golf carts and other things that we need. Welcome aboard Tis, your talents are greatly appreciated.

I am sorry to announce that Candice won't be coming back to us, as she has moved to Ketchikan. I have started the process of "help wanted" at the golf course, to put together a good crew, for this up coming season. If you know of any one who would be a good candidate, please send them my way. I can be reached at 874-2465 or pinospad@aptalaska.net until we open the golf course.

We would like to thank the Stikine Sportsman's Association for their financial support of Troop 39 activities.

We would like to thank the Golf Camps adult volunteers:  Kim Covalt, Shane Halverson, Faye and Keene Kohrt, for their time and support.

We can't thank the club enough! This year I have picked up two sets of short clubs and a few drivers to help outfit the new Scouts. We expect to have 13 Scouts golfing and 8 of their parents as adult helpers. The support of the youth helps build our numbers.

Terry hopes to start a youth division of the club, I sure hope that happens. If it does we need to help and lend our support.

We are in Arizona until the first week of April but the golfing is great. Well, someone has to do it. However, we got a late start the other day and the sprinklers came on. Everyone but us ran for the club house and watched us finish. They could not believe we finished in the sprinklers until I told them we play in worse rain in the rain forest.

See you in a few weeks,
Don Roher
